GARTH STEVENSON

EN PLEIN AIR: MUSIC MEDITATION HIKE

Garth’s approach to composition is a kind of musical rewilding — nature is the primary inspiration for his minimalist ouvre, and his three full-length solo albums are informed by his experiences carrying his 150-year-old double bass to the woods, beach, desert and other remote locations including Antarctica and Tuva.

Over the years, he has developed a style of forest concert: he leads a group out on a hike with a wireless sound system, finds a suitable place to play, and performs an improvised set inspired by the alchemy of the moment and the place. When he’s not performing in the woods, Garth is often working on film scores (most recently: Val, Chappaquiddick, and Bob Marley: One Love)

He’ll take groups out at 1PM on Saturday and Sunday of the festival (or perform in the Barn if the weather isn’t suitable). Be prepared to hike for 15-20 minutes or so, and bring something comfortable to sit on and to bundle up with.
