Slavic Soul Party

“[SSP!] has arguably advanced the cause of Balkan brass music further than any other U.S.-based group, honoring the rollicking Romani style popularized by the likes of Boban Markovic and Fanfare Ciocarlia while putting its own spin on the tradition.” -Chicago Reader

Fiery Balkan brass, throbbing funk grooves, Roma (Gypsy) accordion wizardry, and virtuoso jazz chops make Slavic Soul Party! NYC’s official #1 brass band for BalkanSoul GypsyFunk. SSP! pumps a strong Balkan brass sound through the filter of life in New York’s outer boroughs, making new music out of the unplanned results of immigration, proximity, and globalization. The band’s music has fans on both sides of the Atlantic, and their tunes have been covered by Serbian brass stars, New Orleans funk stalwarts, and legendary street bands. SSP!’s Tuesday night residency in Barbès has become a destination for music fans from around the world. They recently celebrated their fifteenth anniversary and over two thousand sets in the small back room.

What's with the statue?

“José Gregorio has been our mascot and protector for now 10 years,” said Olivier Conan, “Someone stole the bust. We don’t think it’s funny.”
